Thanks Chris.  I do indeed have a c:\Toshiba folder with a variety of 
subfolders including Drivers and others the names of which mean little to 
me.    If one or more utilities have not been installed the failure of FN + f9 
to work, the absence of certain items from the Mouse appplet in Control 
Panel etc. might be explained.  Prolonged study of the manual seems 
inevitable!
