I didn't realize Dell would do that. That is great. Thanks for the info. -----Original Message----- From: Sullivan, Glenn [mailto:GSullivan@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx]=20 Sent: Wednesday, May 07, 2003 10:47 AM To: 'windows2000@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: [windows2000] Re: sysprep If you do not run sysprep, all or your machines will have the same SID. And all of your local admin accounts will look the "same" to each other... i.e., you may change the password on a local account on one machine but not the other... but the old password would work sometimes because the SID of the account is the same. A crappy explanation, but I can't think of a better one. In the future, talk to Dell about loading on your corporate version of XP pro, which has a VLK and does not require activation. They can do it for little or no more money... I want to create an image and then put the image on all the workstations. I was just wondering if I have to sysprep the workstation that I create the image from? What are the downsides to not running sysprep first? =20 The reason I ask is that Dell installs Windox xp pro on the workstations but I am required to activate the machine with MS. I am trying to avoid the hassles of doing that. =20 Thanks for you help in advance =20 Jonathan =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D To Unsubscribe, set digest or vacation mode or view archives use the below link. http://thethin.net/win2000list.cfm =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D= =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D To Unsubscribe, set digest or vacation mode or view archives use the below link. http://thethin.net/win2000list.cfm ================================== To Unsubscribe, set digest or vacation mode or view archives use the below link. http://thethin.net/win2000list.cfm
