OK,

I've been told that Fruity Loops might do the job and I seem to remember
that somebody on MIDI-Mag had some success with it. It might be worth seeing
if they have a demo that you can download and try out. If this one function
was accessible enough to use you could do your initial composition using it
then export the MIDI for further production on something more accessible.

Best wishes.

It shows nothing at all and any access that could be done would be very very
limited, best steve.

That figures. I had an old version of Ableton, but don't have access to a
modern version to see what could be achieved in conjunction with
SurfaceReader or similar.

Best wishes.

Tim, I'll tell you which one does this and does this pretty well, it's
called Ableton Live.
it's actually been designed for this kind of purpose, and there are a few
control surfaces that could make it accessible, but not entirely. Steve?

a great shame. I remember being able to do this in Ce-Lab Notator back in
the 80s on an Atari ST, but have no idea why modern DAW applications don't
seem to offer the facility.

but haven't had the opportunity to try it out for accessibility. Having said
this, you could load up a lot of Matrix View cells (88 if you've got a long
enough controller keyboard), assign each note to a different cell then save
the lot as a template. Once this had been set up it should be a good jamming
tool, so a little time investment at the start might well pay off big-time
later.
