Hi Ulla,

Must be a bug in the 8.0.2173 ... Though I've tried it on my system and
didn't notice it.

Is there anything you do immediately before this problem begins to occur?
i.e. Do you run a particular programme? Or do you alt tab away from
IE or something like that?

You could mail FS support and see if they have a solution ... Or as a
last resort re-install the previous Jaws version that worked fine.

Tim

Hi Tim

The problem only occurred when I installed the update from 8.0 to 8.0.2173.
The alt key worked perfectly before that.

In the start menu I seem to just have 8.0 but when I check in the JAWS help
in the about JAWS for Windows section it shows that I am running 8.0.2173.

Not sure what is happening.

Ulla

To be honest, I didn't think it would solve the problem.

When you upgraded jaws did you overwrite the existing version, or is your
new version in a separate location in the start menu?

It would be interesting to know if the problem occurred in the earlier
version of jaws.

Hi Tim

Unfortunately the problem with the alt key is still persisting. If you have
any more suggestions I'd be really grateful.

Thanks.

Hi Ulla,

Sounds like you have the infamous sticky alt key problem, whereby the alt
key has "gotten stuck down" as far as jaws is concerned.

Couple of possible solutions.

The simplest is to try and tap the alt key several times, i.e. Press it
several times quickly. If that doesn't work you could try the following
suggestion I found on the FS support page:

Cheers,

Tim

Hi Everyone

I wonder if perhaps someone could help me with an issue I am having with the
alt key.

A few weeks ago I upgraded from JAWS 8.0 to JAWS 8.0.2173. After I
installed the update I started having problems with the alt key. The first
thing I did was to ask for a new keyboard for my PC as I thought that was
perhaps the problem. The new keyboard arrived but the same thing is still
happening.

Basically, sometimes when I press the alt key it doesn't always work. For
example if I am using alt tab to cycle through programmes and I am in a Word
document JAWS says alt tab but on the screen the curser moves to the next
tab position in the document. It also doesn't work when I'm trying to get
to the toolbars. It doesn't happen every time the alt is pressed but it does
happen on a regular basis. This is definitely not a keyboard problem as I
am now using a brand new keyboard.

Has anyone else come across this problem and if so any ideas on how to sort
it out? It is a bit frustrating and very strange.

Regards.

Ulla
