That baby racks up tens of MB. There's no way we'll be able to do it that way. It took me 147 hrs. to download an ISO of Knoppix (Linux) on DUN. I'm not ever doing that again! I could mail a CD to my cousin Renato, your neighbor in Vegas. Nahhh, but if worst comes to worse, you can get a CD from Micro$oft with all the current updates and security patches at the time of purchase. Wouldn't you really rather have a PC without all these hassles? Try getting a Windows 98SE or a Windows 2000 Pro edition at EBay. I'll *NEVER* contribute to Gates' benevolent fund by buying XP. They have yet to work out all the glitches in it and they've already geared up to dump Longhorn on the American* consumer market - *it thinks new is better. But that's my choice - no XP for x - me! So, in conclusion, except for the fact that you encountered the modem woes, your PC ran fine with XP. It was after you determined to do a reinstall that the flood of trouble began, correct? That was after installing the new modem, which did not solve the disconnects? I can't figure it out, Skyhawk. If the box were mine I'd try a different OS, just to ascertain that the PC's hardware is not at fault. tomas P.S.: From looking in the archives for TTT i know there are avid XPers in this forum. Maybe we can enlist their 2cents' worth of ideas in resolving this. --- Lewis & Becky <skyhawk@xxxxxxx> wrote: > You wrote: ""SFC is short for "System File Check" > and you say > you've done that.
