Hey.. I was gonna say that. I had set up a kiosk in a cafe, and needed most of the same things you need, because the public would be able to use the system. We were delivering the browser as a published app to a linux-based thin clied machine (Nic? I wasnt involved with the on-site part) and the publicwebbrowser from team software did very well. We only ran it for a couple of months, as it was a proof-of-concept, but that software is very nice in this situation. The PWB's html rendering relies on Internet explorer, so it works pretty well, but it completely replaces the UI, so you have total control of what they can do. I don't have any great advice on how to lock down the rest of your PC, but the one application you can let them run is definitely PWB. -----Original Message----- From: thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:thin-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Jim Kenzig Sent: Friday, August 09, 2002 12:12 PM To: thin@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [THIN] Re: OT - Library Computer for Internet Access Only See http://www.teamsoftwaresolutions.com/index.htm All your questions will be answered. My company runs retirement centers for the elderly. At each location we = have a library with a DSL connection. I have been tasked with building = a stripped down pc for them to use to surf the net and use web based = email. I have built a couple of AMD based machines with no cd, no floppy, = minimal everything. The trick now is what operating system to use and = how to lock it all down. I like Windows XP because the version of IE that ships with it is = colorful and easy to read. I am also open to Win98 or Linux or whatever = will accomplish this best. All they ever need to see is the web = browser.=20 =================================== This weeks Sponsor: triCerat, Inc ScrewDrivers fxp: Self Configuring Printer Driver with Bandwidth Control Learn more at: http://www.tricerat.com/?page=products&product=sdfxp =================================== For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link. http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm =================================== This weeks Sponsor: triCerat, Inc ScrewDrivers fxp: Self Configuring Printer Driver with Bandwidth Control Learn more at: http://www.tricerat.com/?page=products&product=sdfxp =================================== For Archives, to Unsubscribe, Subscribe or set Digest or Vacation mode use the below link. http://thethin.net/citrixlist.cfm
