Greg,

A start would be to look at TweekUI. This will allow you to lock down
the machine. you could also run IE with the -k command which turns it
into a full screen. You may need to check that command.
For locking down internet explorer look at the IEAK
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ieak/default.asp which should do the
things you need.

Sorry to be vague but it was a long time ago when I implement these.

Steve

Subject: [THIN] OT - Library Computer for Internet Access Only

Sorry for the off topic post but I need some opinions on this.

My company runs retirement centers for the elderly. At each location we
=3D
have a library with a DSL connection. I have been tasked with building
=3D
a stripped down pc for them to use to surf the net and use web based =3D
email.

I have built a couple of AMD based machines with no cd, no floppy, =3D
minimal everything. The trick now is what operating system to use and =3D
how to lock it all down.

I like Windows XP because the version of IE that ships with it is =3D
colorful and easy to read. I am also open to Win98 or Linux or whatever
=3D
will accomplish this best. All they ever need to see is the web =3D
browser.=3D20

I want to make sure they see no desktop, no drives, etc and that they =3D
are not able to install crap like the bonzi buddy or gator if they go to
=3D
a website that asks them to install it. I also have to make sure that =3D
their 13 year old grandson is not able to screw it up when he comes for
=3D
a visit. I don't want history or cookies saved and I don't want it to =3D
remember any of the last visited sites or any of that autocomplete =3D
garbage. These computers will be shared by about 500 senior citizens =3D
who have an uncanny ability to break things (not as bad as nurses, but =3D
close).

Does anyone have any experience with setting something like this up or =3D
have any ideas how to go about it.

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Greg
