Damon, Visa probably called you because all of a sudden there was purchases on your card from a far away place, not because there is less security on the Canadian side. I took a vacation to Florida once and used my Visa to get cash from a machine before the trip home. The very next day I was back in Canada and used the card to buy gas. Next thing I know was I got a call from Visa who were concerned that a transaction took place in Florida. They thought that someone got a hold of my card number and was using it there.
