I use a phone in touch tone V/MC authorization procedure that gives me a
code# I write on the signed hard copy. easier for me, no expensive lease
or purchase of terminals and I can phone it in for my regular customers
over the phone (Mom sends son with TV in his truck,no money, mom phones
in the visa #).I've done it from customers home a few times.Drops right
in my bank acct in 24-48 hrs. Now we do have a "merchant fee" billed our
account per transaction. Last check with all the small fees it was about
5% of the charge.
I have a large sign that we add this to a visa/MC to cover the cost. I
checked with my clearing house and they said that was perfectly
acceptable. After all, some of my commercial accounts bills may be
several thousand dollars. $2000.0 @ 5% thats a lot of fee: $100.00.
Hey- if a customer asks you to order a $5.00 TV accessory and you are
charged 7.50 S/H for ordering it, so be it. Add it on.Samr thing.Cost of
doing business. Unless the state says not to. Thats here, don't know
about other areas.
