Danny, Did you replace Q601and Q602 with 2SC4834P? P type only and matched as close as possible. Scope the pair while running the set at reduced, 40-50VAC, AC voltage and make sure the waveform output of those two transistors is uniform and even. There is much discussion in the Freelist archives about this. You don't need original Sony for this as long as you use "P" type. It seems that the original failure started with trouble in the horizontal circuit as is typical of these chassis and usually brought on by poor solder joints in the horiz. driver path.
