Larry,

I had a CTC169 that had similar symptoms, the unit would be playing fine,
and then it would leave out a loud pop and just shut off and then come back
on a little while later.Sometimes the set would play for days and not do
it.I found a tip in Euras Diagnostics Manual for RCA about replacing zener
diode CR4111 for this problem, this diode comes as a kit #202055. Don't know
if this will help or not, but thought I'd mention it anyway.
