Larry, I had a CTC169 that had similar symptoms, the unit would be playing fine, and then it would leave out a loud pop and just shut off and then come back on a little while later.Sometimes the set would play for days and not do it.I found a tip in Euras Diagnostics Manual for RCA about replacing zener diode CR4111 for this problem, this diode comes as a kit #202055. Don't know if this will help or not, but thought I'd mention it anyway.
