The IDE drives are for the hard drive as I understand. Yes, they are on the same IDE. One primary one secondary. I will go back and check again. I was told that removing the IDE dual controllers that have the yellow marks, then rebooting, should solve the problem. It didn't. It caused the computer to not shut down. Had to manually shut down. The program that you uploaded is excellent. Thank you again. In the computer file of that program for devices it does not list a CD Rom. It listed every thing else. In the registry It was listed in a folder in the Enum file. I deleted it but on reboot the computer did not recognise it. With every thing that I have tried the yellow icons are still beside the Dual IDE controllers. One suggestion was to find the Mfg and model # of the mother board and see if there was a downlod for those controllers. I Think I might be getting in over my head. Will try the safe mode recomendation next. Now are those devices with the yellow icon next to them all on the same IDE? I would first boot into SAFE MODE and see then how the devices are listed in Device Manager. It is very possible that you have duplicated (or no longer installed) devices listed there that may be part of the problem. I recommend you observe (and record) the listings in the device manager in normal boot mode and then in safe mode before deleting and making any changes. I cannot comment on that registry program as I have not used it. I would caution to be very careful "playing" with the registry as it can be a very bad thing if you are not careful and not quite sure what you are doing. I will download those program and see if there is something that will help my situation. I have tried a number of suggestions and nothing has made any difference yet. I can not reinstall windows 98 from the CD-Rom. I may have a copy on floppy. Not sure. There seems to be a difference of opinion as to what effect that might have on existing programs. Do not want to lose everything. BTW I have a program that is called Registry first aid. It scans all the entries and list the ones that are incorrect. Are you familiar with this program? If so is it useful?
