Wouldn't controller replacement criteria based on age and current 'reliability'
be a better indicator for replacement policies?. We all know that some types of
older controller are very reliable - and unless there is some other requirement
for replacing the controller (e.g. changing the site geometry or upgrading
facilities on site - or spares availability) - why replace reliable equipment?

(This is assuming there is funding for a controller replacement programme
anyway! - especially as in many cases, if it is time to replace the controller,
it is often also time to replace the rest of the street equipment too!)

I'm with you Graeme.

Nothing worse than having to replace a good old T200 that's worked
reliably for 15 years or more with something that may not begin with a
letter 'S'!
