Maybe not April 1st - but obviously still a lot of hot air.

Subject: [TCUG] Toucan Green Wave Indicators for Cyclists

It's Friday afternoon, not April 1st

Our cycling officer has just come to us with a plan for advance indicators
for cyclists on a cycle way as it approaches a toucan.

It is apparently in use on the continent and gives an indication to
cyclists
so that they can adjust their speed so that they can reach the toucan
whilst
it is still on green.

Anyone know anything about such a device? have a look at a company called
'tradeinvent' http://www.tradeinvent.co.uk/products/bicycletraffic.php

No rants please - We have already been through the 'how can it work with
anything but a fixed time crossing' and 'should we be getting cyclists to
speed up as they approach a conflict point with both cars and peds'

I recall there being a count-down timer being made available from one
signal
company that may have been used by some of you. We certainly didn't but I
suppose the concept is not hugely different - any comments on that one as
well.

Phil
