He's trying to seal up the rear hatch on a '70 BAY. That Bay rear hatch seal is the only one that you can't find a Brazilian replacement for. Even the new Brazilian buses have an $80 German seal on the rear hatch.

It has a metal strip molded in to help it stay in place in a shallow open "U" channel that runs at the bottom of the hatch and keep it formed around the latch pin indentation.

I guess the Brazilian VW rubber manufacturers can't make that cheap enough for people to find the abysmal quality acceptable.

Here's the stuff Everett uses. I bought a bunch of it and it is great. It is from a company called AU-VE-CO and you have to order it through a vendor http://www.marketelf.com/product.aspx?id_category=204 This is just one company that sells it. Almost any auto parts store can get it. I can't imagine how this will replace an $80 part, but.... ----- Original Message -----

Hi tcb bus people. I'm Kyle, a convert from the buska list. I live
in Texas and I own a 1970 bay window bus that I've been slowly
restoring for the last few years. I was telling Gerald I was looking
for an alternative to the $80 rubber seal for the trunk. He said
someone in here might have a creative solution.
