I love opinion questions since I rarely get them wrong :^) Here is my $0.02: DB/MA are very intuitive displays of the information. If my intent is to take the information and plot it to draw some inference, this is the way I go 99.9% of the time. But, I adhere to the idea that dB/A and MA distributions (of passive structures) are not normal. The magnitude data is truncated at 0dB (|1|), and the phase information is tough to deal with when bounded by +/-180degrees (or even if unwrapped). Real/Imag distributions tend to be normal and numerically convenient to work with. When my intent is to do a lot of statistical or numerical post processing this is my format of choice. =20 Now if you asked me what is the current default format on my VNA? It is R/I. On my favorite simulator? dB/A Best regards, -Brett -----Original Message----- From: si-list-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:si-list-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Aubrey_Sparkman@xxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, December 13, 2005 10:50 PM To: ray.anderson@xxxxxxxxxx; si-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [SI-LIST] Re: 4-port node numbering Now that we have an understanding about the lack of node numbering sequence standards.... There are persuasive arguments given for each case. =3D20 So it looks like there currently is not any global standard to follow and that one must decide which makes sense from their own perspective and then at least standardize the node definitions within ones own company. =3D20 Regards to all, =3D20 =3D20 -Ray =3D20 Raymond Anderson Senior Signal Integrity Staff Engineer Product Technology Department Advanced Package R&D Xilinx Inc. =3D20 =3D20 =3D20 =3D20 =3D20 =3D20 ________________________________ From: Ray Anderson Sent: Tuesday, December 13, 2005 11:49 AM To: si-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Cc: Ray Anderson Subject: 4-port node numbering =3D20 I have general question regarding 4-port s-parameter files.
