I concur 100% - make no assumptions about "correct" numbering scheme. Spell it out in any models, presentations, etc. And don't forget to do the same when talking about diff pairs (SDD31, for instance). Ambiguity inevitably leads to error. I come across both forms in about equal measure. What's most infuriating is that very few suppliers take the time to provide comment text in the file header to inform the user which port is which. I know you're asking for comments on 4-port systems, but I've also come across a dual diff-pair 8-port example from one vendor (which had excellent comment text) that followed your example b) form; i.e. ports 1-4 down the left side for the socket-end and ports 5-8 down the right side for the plug-end. Due to the lack of specification or rigorous convention, let's at least have some header text, please!! Does anyone know if there is a generally accepted industry standard for node numbering? =3D20 ------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe from si-list: si-list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field or to administer your membership from a web page, go to: //www.freelists.org/webpage/si-list For help: si-list-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'help' in the Subject field List FAQ wiki page is located at: http://si-list.org/wiki/wiki.pl?Si-List_FAQ List technical documents are available at: http://www.si-list.org List archives are viewable at: //www.freelists.org/archives/si-list or at our remote archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/si-list/messages Old (prior to June 6, 2001) list archives are viewable at: http://www.qsl.net/wb6tpu
