I was trying to remember why I joined the PC....Because I had a GSD and was showing her, I think that was the only reason...to be part of the club. It wasn't until quite a bit later that I became interested in THE Club, and that was through this list. I don't think I would have ever gone behind the "wall" to join a private club list. Christine, I think a lot of your ideas are really great. The idea of having specific items behind the wall, the pedigrees, the instant Nationals, ROM information..........................but I don't think it serves a good purpose to have a Members Only discussion list. I think it would become not much more than what you already accomplish by IM, email and telephone conversations. I can't think of the harm it is doing to discuss the NIS, the National sites, etc., in an open forum. Sure, we get the vociferous non-members writing emails about various subjects, but they shut down quickly when we mention they aren't members. And maybe then they join??? Can anybody think of one time or one discussion item that a non-member seriously or destructively influenced a decision? Or harmed the PC by reading an open forum? Sean's idea " Our Local clubs should be a way to filter information back to the membership. Do we have Board designees from each "area"? is an excellent one. It has come up before. That way, we can also encourage those club members who are NOT PC members to join and participate, to feel more involved with the PC. Christine had so many good ideas in her original post (along with those who had input to her), that I hope that the rest of the ideas don't get lost in the discussion of da'list vs "closed" list.
