A few years ago one of my former colleagues who goes thru life with an
inverted risk-return curve went off on an "expedition" to the Amazon (he
said to wrestle anacondas) and came back with a story about a tribal
chief giving him some number of his princess daughters with whom he had
made a good start repopulating the area. Alas, his attempts to bring
one or all of them to Alaska foundered when he was convicted of
bootlegging and drug running. His sentence was a year or so of house
arrest and to write articles for economics journals on the ill-effects
of his crime (I kid you not:
