This is untrue. They simply lack any phase-related information, such as a true
front-to-back or side-to-side position in real space unless some specific
strictures are followed.
I've quite a few M-S recordings, and my ear multitrack/multi-miked recordings
sound horrible enough ;-)

If phase accuracy was extremely important multi miked recordings mixed
using a conventional desk would sound even worse than they do!
