Bravo - thanks for the update Bill - and let's continue to move forward renewal
colleagues at the Regional School.

Sadly - broken systems consume resources much like black holes suck in wealth.
Their leaders may espouse to support learning, but instead work against
students' brains while defaulting daily to maintain stagnant status quo
stalemates.

Perhaps it's a good thing that those who hold brilliant (and proven) answers
for a new era - also find courage to stand in the gap and pay the price of
genuine renewal that offers higher motivation and achievement for all students.

Facilitation of innovative approaches with evidence of student benefits -
continues to inspire leaders at the Mita Brain Center! We stand 100% behind you
and this wonderful venture to do the same - and see Regional School as a
prototype we too crave and enjoy! Stay blessed! Ellen

Subject: [regional_school] Update

Dear Friends,

Over the past year there has been a significant amount of work behind the
scenes to forward the establishment of the Regional Academy. Due to the
significant changes in City government, large legislative hurdles in Albany,
the exit of the commissioner of education and the departure of the
superintendent of RCSD, progress is much slower than we would like. Tom Frey,
Bryan Hetherington and I have been working the back room on a very regular
basis for the last 11 months. We had a meeting with RCSD personnel this week
and are scheduling a meeting with Bolgen Vargas to pave a path for the Regional
Academy.

Politics always plays a role in converting the sacred into the profane. We
continue to maintain optimism that the legislative bill that has been drafted
will become reality. Not an easy task.

Good things do not come easily. If we believe in what we have created for the
benefit of children, then we must continue pushing forward. We can NEVER
abandon the hopes, dreams and futures of our kids. I just read a book,
Bringing Adam Home. The book is about the kidnapping and brutal murder of Adam
Walsh in 1981. I think most of us know the case and his father who, as a
result of this horrific crime, became the host of America's Most Wanted. I was
taken by the persistence of a Florida detective, Joe Matthews who after 25
years, solved the case in 2006. While I'm not expecting 25 years to pass
before the opening of the Regional Academy, I am confident that persistence
will essential and that we will prevail.

As many of you know who spent so much time defining the Regional Academy, the
Regional Academy is about social justice and civil rights. None of these
important issues happened overnight or without significant pain and suffering.
I keep the Frederick Douglass quote ever present, "If there is no struggle,
there is no progress.". The struggle continues!!

In September, we are planning a meeting of the group leaders for a progress
update and strategy session. We will keep you informed. Also, please feel
free to contact me.

Peace and Hope.

Bill
