recently I made some handmade books by simply having prints bound
together with a spiral binding at Kinko's. This looked really good I
think.

From a financial point of view I believe that a digital book is a
better
option (i.e. less expensive) for smaller runs or for one-off orders
where
the final number is unknown and you don't want to risk large over
oredering,
and you want to be able to produce on demand.
Larger runs are cheaper on a press. I can't remember the cut off point
(?100) but can look up later.
I do have a copy of hardback Lulu book in which I had work included
and
quality looks fair, but of course I don't know what the other originals
looked like and as they were all alt processes it isn't easy to tell.

Has anyone on the list used a self-publishing company like lulu.com
to produce a short-run book?
Were you happy with the quality of photographic reproduction?
I have always assumed that this type of service is more geared toward
quick, inexpensive books, rather than quality reproduction.
