Then it is probably a good alternative to the borax. At least it's worth a
try.

The formula for DK-76 is the same as the regular (non-buffered) D-76 formula except for including 2.0 grams per liter of Kodalk in place of the Borax. It doesn't appear to be well known that Kodak stated that the amount of either Borax or Kodalk could be increased up to 20 grams per liter with attendant increase in developer activity. With the regular 2 grams per liter of either Borax or Kodalk development time in the example is given at 20 minutes. With 20 grams per liter of Borax it becomes 10 minutes. With 20 grams per liter of Kodalk it becomes 5 minutes. Where a replenisher is desired the Borax in the normal D-76R formula should be replaced with Kodalk, 7.5 grams per liter. There is probably no advantage to the use of Kodalk in place of Borax in D-76 unless Borax is, for some reason, unobtainable.
