For what it is worth, if you get into any specialty anymore, any
business/profession or even hobby of where a high degree of hand labour
and/or crasftmanship, everything is pretty much mail order. I have friends
& family - both pro & hobbist in blacksmithing, stained glass, quilting,
wool (shearing, carding & spinning), ham radio, wood carving, hiking &
camping (the "serious" stuff), and on and on and on, and all of it is
pretty much mail order.

There are exceptions to be sure, as some large centres will still
ahve well stocked stores, but the reality is, big box chain stores - be
they hardware, books, clothing, etc, if you look closely, it's all the
equivalent of "top 40". Look at music stores (I was going to say record
stores - but that woudl date me. :) Anyhting outside of the top 40 is
almost special order anymore.

Hell, my dress shoes for work (Florshiem, Dacks) , good ones, not
the overseas crap sold in chain stores, I have to travel out of town to
find them anymore. What really gets me is they used to make them right
here in town.

So it isn't just photo paper and products, it's everything across
the board that doesn't fall into the category "move it off the shelf in 30
days or loose it."

But it's not all bad news. Something about hamn nature makes
something more desirable the harder it is to find it. For example, there
are still many people who do oil painting and water colours - and wasn't
photogrpahy supposed to kill all that off? :)

As for Kodak - their Elite FB paper Po'd me off. IT was the only
FB paper that woudl consistantly darken on me in storage. I keep my papers
cool, dry and and even refridgerated in selaed, zip lock bags if I feel the
need too. FB papers form Agfa, Ilford, Forte, etc, woudl all last a long
time - I had some papers around here for 4-5 years, not a problem using them.

But Kodak Elite FB paper woudl always darken on you if you didn't
use it all up inside 6 months. At least for me, Dunno why, but that's is
the rason I stopped buying it.

i still love Tri-X in 4x5, and i love HC-100, but on the paper
side, Kodak lost it long ago.
