Hi,
I don't like the num pad, because the down arrow is not at number 5, but at
number 2, and this way it is harder to work with it.
I also don't like to use the num pad, because there are very many other keys
around the arrow keys, and it is harder to find the arrow keys on the num
pad than the standard arrow keys.
I can tell you that I also don't use keyboards that have additional keys
under or over the insert, delete, page up, page down, home and end block of
keys.
I also don't use keyboards that have Start menu and context menu keys
because a start menu key is just some garbage. I use the start menu very
seldom, and it is really very easy to press control+escape when I want to do
that.
But when I put the hand on the bottom left of the keyboard, I know very fast
if my hand is over an alt or control key, because there is a gap between
them.
I have tried to change the arrow keys in Window Eyes, but I couldn't do it,
and I needed to use a different set of arrows for PC/mouse cursor.
In Jaws I can use them both with the common arrow keys, and this is an
important feature of Jaws which is not present in Window Eyes.
Too bad.
Octavian

Redefine the hotkeys that use the numpad however you like. You might want
to use the laptop keyboard layout as your starting point rather than the
default keyboard layout, as the laptop layout assumes that you'll try to
stay clear of the numpad to begin with. Still, why no like the numpad? It
opens up the keyboard so much.
