Clint, He's using a router/modem. It's an ActionTec GT724R. I've got the manual for it. It's a pretty standard router/modem for dsl. Those asx links I sent should paste into Window media player and work without any special router set up. No port numbers required. The links he sent paste into Windows media player and play immediately too. I just him to try those asx links I sent and see what happens. Actually there are two sets of login/passwords in the router. One set is for the modem to login to the ISP. The other set is for the user to access the router/modem settings. Neither of those are a problem. He can access the Actiontec router logs and he's getting on line. (Or is it, for certain?) You haven't said if you're using a combo modem/router. Again, I have never seen any modem that required, nor had "in it", any login info (as in its firmware). I would guess your modem is also a router. ? FWIW, you should be able to use any modem and router that you want. I've changed both of mine a few times. You may have to get someone to check the rear of the router (or modem/router, whatever it is) for one of those tiny holes which would be the reset button. Usually something like a straight paper clip has to be used to press it since it's hidden or recessed. Note that this will totally clear out everything in a router (or anything else) putting it back to default settings. Whether or not a modem should be in bridged mode or not, depends on if a router is used. I can't remember right off-hand now, but with a router it has to be in one mode, and without a router it has to be in the other mode. Usually this is changed by accessing that IP address that's in the manual, which opens up a config webpage in your browser, you log in to that, and in the settings or options is an area to change the mode (and a lot of other things). You can't always go by the lights on a broadband external modem (or router), sometimes they can all be green, yet you still may not be able to connect. If your modem is indeed a Zyxel 645M, the user guide or manual is here: http://support.nettally.com/dsl/docs/zyxel/ZyXEL_P-645M_v2.50_UsersGuide.pdf There is a thread here about it http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,14412372 and on that page I see an image showing that the reset button is between the "Ethernet" and "DSL" ports, being closer to the "Ethernet" port which is the one next to the power supply input. But in looking at the image, the ports look about the same! If I had to guess I would say the port they labeled "Ethernet" looks like the RJ45 and the other one is the phone line, RJ11. Some info is saying the 645M and 645R is indeed a modem AND router combo; datasheet: http://www.dsl-warehouse.com/pdf/p645series_datasheet.pdf This page has a quick start guide on the 645, but you have to click the "Yes, I agree...." button in order to start the download: http://www.dsldepot.com/download.asp?fileid=40 -Clint God Bless, Clint Hamilton, Owner www.OrpheusComputing.com www.ComputersCustomBuilt.com www.OrpheusComputing.com/most_reliable_cheapest_webhosting.html www.OrpheusComputing.com/office/computer_accessories.html ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tom" I know this problem is confusing but I'll try to answer the questions. This is unrelated to my streaming problem, it's to clear up a few things with Clint. Quite a few years ago I switched from EarthLink DSL to my current ISP, pa.net. They gave me a DSL modem which they said was configured with my user name, password and other information the modem needed and said I could not access anything in the modem. I think it's a Zyxel, possibly a 645M. I'll verify this when I can. I used it for several years before purchasing the ActionTec. Yesterday, I wanted to try it to see if my audio streaming problem would go away. It would not connect to my ISP probably because pa.net changed my user name when they changed DSL providers. On the back of the modem is an on/off switch, an RJ11 connector, an RJ45 connector and a serial port. I can not find a reset button. I was poking into every small opening I could find but no reset. I connected the modem to my com2 port but couldn't find any way to get information from it or to it. I was just looking on the pa.net support page. I found instructions on connecting the modem. They said, after connecting the phone cable, etc., there should be a green or yellow light for 10m or 100m. If not, call. In searching on Google, I saw something about the modem being in bridge mode which prevented browser access. It said after switching the modem to DHCP mode it would then be accessible but I couldn't find how to do this. I'm sure configuring the modem has to be done through the serial port. I'll write a different message about my streaming problem. Tom ** Your Message ** >That's why I wanted him to go through the problem again. >I'm confused.
