CrisS, Did you go to add / remove programs, add / remove Windows Components? Messenger is hidden away in here, and once you remove the hide from the sysoc.inf, it will then show up. Once you have removed it and windows has done its bit, you can then go and remove the folder from the Program files folder too. It does work as I have done it on a about 4 machines so far. Trevnal ----- Original Message ----- From: "cris" <cris@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> TY ! well !! it still doesn't show up in add/remove programs! Even re-booted again just to be sure it didn't need a re -boot to show up. crisS ----- Original Message ----- From: Trevnal If you remove the "hide", on any entry, it then allows it to show up in add and remove programs , under the windows section. That is why I said be careful with what you then remove. I removed the word hide from every entry, and then I found many things I could remove, but some I had no idea what there were etc, so I left them. it allow me to remove things like Messenger, Media Player etc. So that is why I said be careful, don't delete from the list, what you are not sure about. Hope that helps, Trevnal ----- Original Message ----- From: "cris" <cris@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> will it then show up in add remove? since it doesn't now? ok - I found the file and the line. when you say - On all entries that have hide..... what do you mean by ALL entries ? all entries in that entire page? or just the one in that string? Just want to be sure before I mess with it! thx! CrisS ----- Original Message ----- From: Trevnal If the follow the following information, you can uninstall MS Messenger and a few other things in XP, just be careful what you delete though. Edit sysoc.inf. This file can be found in a folder named INF, which is in the C:\WINDOWS\inf folder. You can open that file in notepad. Look for the following line: msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7 On all entries that has hide, remove the word hide, but leave the comma's. Now you can remove the files in add/remove programs. Once you have told Windows to remove Messenger, you can then delete the files from the program files folder also. As I said, just be careful on what you do delete after you can see the programs listed. Trevnal ----- Original Message ----- Does anyone know if there is a way to uninstall msn messenger? I used it for a while when a friend could only use that one - then I changed my e-mail address, and the program got corrupted or something. Now - it shows up in a search - it shows up in program files, but there is no apparent way to open it - it doesn't show up in add/remove programs. Search finds it inside service pack files also....interesting, I thought. There is no uninstall inside c\program files\msn messenger either - I logged off (winXP) and it had to end program - msn messenger - which made me curious - since it doesn't show up as running in my task bar and there isn't a shortcut to even try to open it!
