Dunno about other programs, but what Symantec/ NAV does is reindex after the update and make a new folder, leaving behind the old (and now redundant) virus def folder. If it were still needed, the program would cease to auto-protect on deletion of the old folder/s. Believe McAfee overwrites the old defs instead. ----- Original Message ----- From: "milady" <kg6ocz@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, February 29, 2004 11:02 PM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: Symantec Antivirus Isn't that true of any AV...don't they all build files? LiveUpdate scheduling will work only if the client is installed in "managed" mode and if has to download updates from the server. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kathy Ferrell" <fnkdf@xxxxxxx> To: <pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, February 29, 2004 2:01 PM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: Symantec Antivirus Also, I don't think the corporate version has a time out on updates. My university has been giving this one away to fac staff and students for years and we have never been asked to buy it again. They do update when a new version comes out but no one who is still running an older version has problems with updates.
