That's not done through e-mail; when the AVG is in your system tray
(taskbar), doubleclicking it brings up the control centre, from
which one can schedule scans and updates.  I don't use that feature
as it tends to pop up at inconvenient times, usually when I'm not
online and not planning to get on straightaway.
