About the printer problem- that is odd. It is hard for me to diagnose it
long distance, but a question I would like to ask is has anyone been
accessing your BIOS settings lately? It is possible to set them so the
computer will not look for LPT1, LPT2, etc. (I did that to a frat brother
as a joke in college one time.)

I can't remember what we have tried so far.

Have you tried using the cable on a printer you +know+ works? If so, it
isn't the cable. Have you tried downloading a new driver for your printer?
A word of caution here: If you do download a new printer from a site not
supported by the printer's manufacturer, be careful please. Some of them
will include "bonus" programs for using their site. Did anyone suggest a
self test from the printer? How did work? Uh, thinking here, what did an
attempt to print a test page show?

If I suggested anything that has already been done (I probably did),
apologies. If you want me to look for a printer driver for you, I will and
let you download it. To do that, I need the operating system (and version),
and the printer manufacturer and printer model. Feel free to write me off
list, I would like to help you if I can.

Robert
