I had a similar problem with my PC after installing SP2 ~ by the book ~ fresh install of Windows, most up to date Firewall and Virus software. In the end my ISP (Cable) told me to remove SP2 and things went ok from there. BTW I've since installed SP2 without the care and attention of the first time and it's fine. As far as the Southern Comfort thing goes I have a recipe that takes a bottle of Whisky/Bourbon, 2 big bars of milk chocolate, a tin of condensed milk, 2 tins of evaporated milk and 2 small tins of sterilised cream. You melt the chocolate and gradually whisk in the tinned stuff. Then you add the whisky/bourbon and pour the mix into bottles and leave it in the fridge for 24 hrs b4 drinking it. (in limited quantities for obvious reasons) It lasts for months kept in the fridge but most ppl cant keep it that long without drinking it. Hope this helps. Have a great Christmas all of you. I E will not go to a web page Hi all, I have a friend who is having a problem. She has a new HP computer running Windows XP with SP2 and all her updates. She has run both virus and adware scans and came out fine. Last night as she shut down her computer and went to bed a happy camper. This morning when she turned on her computer, she could get her email. She can get to MSN messenger. So, you know her cable connection is working. She still has MSN working..so we know she still has an internet connection. I believe she is on cable. I do not think it is dsl. She went to open IE and she cannot get to any webpage. in the address bar, the default it C:\documents & settings.....yada yada yada.... She went to her favorites and selected one. It gave her a page error 404..page not found... she cannot get any internet page to come up. She got mozilla (someone emailed it to her so she could install it) and she can get to the internet that way. But, she needs IE. I had her uninstall IE (control panel - add/remove programs add /remove windows elements. She unchecked IE and when then she closed the add/remove programs window, she pressed start and told the machine to reboot. It seem to get hung up on the reboot and she could hear her hard drive working and working... but..nothing was happening on the screen. After approximately 5 minutes, I told her to power off as nothing was happening on the screen. When she powered down the pc and waited a full minute or so, she turned the PC back on and everything seemed the same. She then went back to add remove programs and reversed the previous step and put a check next to IE to put it back on the computer. The result was ..no change. While IE was showing up now, she still cannot get it to go to any page. It just wants to point to her C: If she presses Favorites and selects a favorite on her list, she gets a page not found. Does anyone have any idea what she can do? She has had this pc for a few months.... so it has been working fine. Since it is under warranty, I suggested she call HP. Please send any ideas you may have...at least the ones that might solve this problem...lol! Although if anyone has the recipe for Southern Comfort..that you add the condensed milk with to make an awesome drink...let me know that too! I use to have the recipe...15- 20+ yrs ago and Southern Comfort does not have it. I did try there first...lol! If you don't find the recipe for me, I may just have to drink my Southern Comfort straight! lol! Oh that would be just terrible..tee hee.. Thanks in advance....
