Your computer manufacturer probably put it on there because MS has not
shipped Win 7 with an email client from the beginning.

Hi, all--
Hey, many thanks to those of you who posted possible solutions and helpful
suggestions about this problem! I now have some avenues to explore.

Note to Don/recklessmaverick, just for general fyi for everyone: You
mentioned in your first post on this that MS already knows Windows Live Mail
is a lousy program, and that's why they aren't bundling an e-mail program
with Windows 7. Actually, I had to move to a new Windows 7 laptop late last
fall because my other computer died. Guess what--at that time, Windows Live
Mail came bundled with Windows 7. Maybe they are no longer doing that (since
they may have noticed all the links that pop up when, in a late-night snit,
one Googles, "Windows Live Mail Sucks!". . .), but my laptop is probably one
of the earlier Win 7 machines. Ergo, I try never to be an "early adopter" of
any software, but in this case, just couldn't be helped. . .-sigh-

Anyway, thanks again, Don, and everyone else who replied! Will let you know
what works.

Best regards,

Jo-ski
