If you're asking what version USB you have, you can usually use an info tool/app to show that. One good one is AIDA32. URL is: http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php Just run it and it checks your system for all the info you can ever need. ---Troth ----- Original Message ----- From: Lionel To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, September 16, 2003 6:39 PM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: CD Burner. Thank you ever so much your Lordship. lol . I wondered what the Buffer was for , from now on I will close every thing down except Nortons. I have 512Ram. I just had 3 USB 2.0 plugs added to the computer at the back down at the bottom. Had 2 1.2 at the back top and 2 in the front of the computer, where can I go on the computer to check if the Tech has fitted 2.0 USB and not 1.2 USB. ?? Is not "necessary", but if your system is a slow one, or maybe low on RAM, you shouldn't be using your computer while burning. By shutting down stuff running in the background, you're freeing up more resources for the job to be done uninterrupted. Unlike a copy to hard drive or floppy, when you burn to CD it needs a continuous stream of data. If its burning, and the source is coming in slower than the destination, its gonna hiccup and crash. That's what the burner's buffer is for. It reads ahead and saves the info that needs to be burned in the buffer. The burner takes the data from the buffer, and the buffer continues to be filled. There's a feature on most current CD burners now that enables the burner to actually halt a burn until the buffer refills. Forgot what its called. But, Plextor I think was the first with the technology, and now practically every burner has some form of this technology on it. ---Troth ----- Original Message ----- From: Lionel To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sunday, September 14, 2003 8:08 PM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- CD Burner.
