Compatibility mode works fine... sometimes. But, it won't kill your computer. If it doesn't work you just remove it. To apply it, find the executable file that you're running, and right-click on it. Select PROPERTIES and then the COMPATIBLY tab. From there, fill in the blanks. And, you can remove it just the same. In honesty, of all the times I myself have tried it to fix older programs to work on my computer, it has not worked. That's MY story. Others have given whopping success stories. So, you just need to try it for yourself. Regarding the burning software... Many people swear by the XP built-in burner. Me, personally, I like to add my own burner. The only thing I use the built-in burner for is temporary packet-writing (which is drag-n-drop like a floppy drive). Installing a separate burning app will not mess anything up, nor will it disable the built-in XP burner. You can use all of them at will. ---Troth At 9/20/2003 11:27 AM, you wrote: >I am certainly taking advantage of the excellent expertise on this list >first query >have a few Microsoft software e.g flight simulator, which was installed on >former computer with ME >wont load on new computer with xp >a xp manual I read and I quote "windows xp has a feature called >compatibility mode which in essence mimics the operating system, which >lets you run games without problems. >I am reluctant to do this as I think I would be heading for a crash?? any >thoughts or ideas on this compatibility thing installed on xp???? >second query >windows xp states that to run a cd burner neither NERO or CD CREATOR are >required as ROXIO is pre installed >your input on this would be much appreciated >tia James >To unsub or change your email settings: >//www.freelists.org/webpage/pctechtalk > >To access our Archives: >http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PCTechTalk/messages/ >//www.freelists.org/archives/pctechtalk/ > >For more info: >//www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/list?list_id=pctechtalk To unsub or change your email settings: //www.freelists.org/webpage/pctechtalk To access our Archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PCTechTalk/messages/ //www.freelists.org/archives/pctechtalk/ For more info: //www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/list?list_id=pctechtalk
