If they should both be handled exactly the same way, then no, you can
just define them as one rule. The less complex symbols, the better.

You should avoid using complex symbols unless absolutely necessary, but the decimal point is one place where this is most definitely necessary. However, if you had a symbol which gets pronounced the same way as another symbol (e.g. two bullets which look similar), you should just define it twice rather than using a complex symbol.
