Robert A couple of observations - If your file is in Word why don't you break it down into chapters to make it smaller? You can insert hyperlinks to open the next chapter at the end of each section, for ease of reference. And if it can't be broken down into chapters does it contain lots of images perhaps? .. If so, replace the embedded images with links to separate image files. Or compress your images to make them smaller. Guessing here really cos I can't imagine how else it's got to be so huge! I note your info re your processor size etc but virtual memory is what will also be causing some of your difficulties. The file size is really far too big IMHO! Hello everyone- Is there anyway at all to get around or turn off the limit to a file size Word 2000 can open? I have a genealogy file of roughly *800 MB*, and it starts off as if it is going to open it. A few real minutes later (About four minutes), it will display the top portion of the file briefly, but immediately proceeds to give me an error. I am using a computer with 3.8G of memory, and AMD Athlon XP processor (1.66G), and 100 G hard drive, 72G free. I should have the room. Ok, according my book, 32MB is the limitation for Word to open a file. Ug. I could have sworn I saw people opening bigger files. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
