Steve, from what you tell it seems that some parts of Office remained on your computer after you uninstalled it. Is everything else on Windows functioning OK with the exception of Office Professional? First thing I would do would be to search your computer for a restore point which was anterior to the date when you used CCleaner to clean the registry; if there exists one, I would restore your computer to then and check whether Office would work. If it worked, then the issue would be solved. If this didn't work, then the procedure would become more convoluted: I would install Revo Uninstaller on your computer and then uninstall Office thru Revo Uninstaller instead of thru the Control Panel. This might clear your register and program files of the Office remnants. I'd also check whether any folders related to Office remained in the Program Files folder, and delete them. After that I would reboot the computer and then try installing Office 2000 from scratch (in fact, if you hadn't uninstalled CCleaner, after the reboot and before reinstalling Office I would use it to search the register for anything left pertaining to Office, then delete those keys and reboot again before reinstalling Office). It's not easy to give a step by step tutorial on how to do this. If you tell us what version of Windows you're using, perhaps some other member would be able to give you clearer instructions.
