CCleaner in its default configuration does have a problem with Office 2000. If
I remember rightly, it has to do with the option to clear index.dat files, and
not with registry cleaning; in Office 2000 Microsoft resorted to using
index.dat files, previously used only to store things like cookie settings, to
store a few of the settings for Office 2000 instead of placing them on the
register (a strange decision). After CCleaner deleted those files, invoking
Office caused the message that it hadn't been completely installed and you'd
have to insert the original CD and let the installation repair itself. This
caused me no end of trouble when I used Office 2000 until I was able to
determine the cause and uncheck the option.
This doesn't happen with Office 2007 and 2010 anymore. I can't vouch for 2003,
because I skipped it.
