Rich, You are correct about some schools requiring helpers having to have CRB checks. I heard the other day that a school had to cancel a trip because some mothers who had been helping the school out for many years and who going on the trip as helpers were not allowed to go because they were not checked. The reason stated is that such checks are for those looking after children, such as scout masters, teachers, playgroup helpers, etc.; but on passeneger hauling days, we are not looking after the children - that is still the responsibility of the parent. When hauling chilren at school fetes etc, then don't the schools have rules that anyone helping out at the fetes have to have the checks done (although in a fete situation where anyone can wander onto the premises, then this seems like a slightly ineffective measure).
