Computer sequencers don't work with any keyboard out of the box. There is always tweaking and configurating. I'm sorry that you're frustrated, but this is complicated stuff. If you want to learn how it all works, then you'll need to be patient, reason things out, read manuals, and experiment. You can switch local echo off by using the sequencer quick setup function on the Motif. Press Seq Setup and press F3 to bring up the quick set page. You can turn the dial to select a quick set template. Template 1 should be used when you're working with just the Motif. Template 3 should be used when you're working with the computer. Dial to the template that you want, press enter to load it, and then press exit a few times to go back out to song mode. When you switch to song mode, the reason that you're hearing a guitar is because you're tuned to one of the built-in demos. Turn the dial until you hear a piano. That will be a blank song, and that is where you should set the Motif before using Sonar. Oh, and when you're in Sonar, you don't use the buttons on the right to select sounds. If you start pushing buttons on the right, you'll most likely just call up different songs all together. How do I get to the local mode setting, and I notice that every time I switch to song mode, a guitar voice comes up as the default instrument. Of course I am able to sort of select a number of voices through the keypad on the right, but there isn't as wide of a choice list as I have when I am in voice mode. Darn it all I just wish Sonar would . well . just work with this synthesizer straight out of the box! As yall can see I'm a bit frustrated. What's its purpose? I thought you said that you should have it switched off when working in Sonar. ----- Original Message ----- From: Bryan Smart <mailto:bryansmart@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: MoAccess@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, October 16, 2007 7:53 AM Subject: Re: [MoAccess] Sonar not recognizing xs It doesn't sound like the Motif is in the song mode. Push the song button. You don't need to do anything with a remote setting in Utility mode. The remote button turns on and off the control surface mode, which has no affect on recording MIDI tracks. As an example, when I try and change the patches to prepare the track for recording, the patches on the xs show up fine in Sonar, but whenever I arrow up and down, Sonar doesn't tell the xs to switch patches to match the patch selection. I might arrow to a trumpet patch but I still get a grand piano when I play the xs while I'm in the patch selection box. I downloaded sonar real producer 6, and I'm creating midi-only tracks, no audio. If I recall, the manual says something about turning off remote mode on the midi page under the utility menu? I haven't done that yet. However, doesn't the remote on/off button do the same thing? You must place checkmarks next to all of the Yamaha ports in order for them to show up as input and output choices on individual tracks. If the ports don't show up in MIDI Devices, then you didn't install the Motif USB drivers, or you didn't install the drivers for the MIDI interface where the Motif is attached. I downloaded a trial of sonar 6 producer or something like that, haven't used sonar in a long while. For some reason, the xs is not showing up as a midi controler for inputs and outputs. What should I do?
