I would say all your messages is a factor. I had this problem for a while and
some of it had to do with trying to do something and having messages loading at
the same time. One thing I did that helped was stopping previews completely by
selecting none for that option in viewing in Mail. I thought at one time about
reverting to classic but didn't do that.
