Hi, John. Never occurred to me to use the tab key. I'm not clear when its appropriate to use the basic keystrokes available, those being tab, enter, and vo keys with the arrows. I have hints turned on which helps a bit. I imagine a year from now all this will be just instinctive.

Make a long story short, your message helped quite a bitl.

Hi Brian,
OK, try this. In your message list when you hear a message conversation
group, tab once. This should bring you to the message content area of either
the first or last message in the conversation, depending on how you have Mail
configured. Then use the VO keys and left or right arrow keys to move to each
additional message in the conversation. Just shift tab back to the message
list when you are done to delete the conversation or delete the separate
messages in the content area.

Note that I am assuming you are using the new standard view, btw.

This question is difficult for me to frame but here goes. How can I read email
grouped by conversation. I've read in the help that the conversations are
collapsed and there is a discosure triangle to click which will uncollapse it.
I hear disclosure triangle spoken but don't know how to click it. Using vo plus
spacebar just brings up a menu. The enter key does do anything.
I spent a little time, well an hour actually with a one on one appointment at
apple but the poor guy who couldn't have bgeen more helpful couldn't figure it
eiother.
All the best and have a grand weekend,
Brian
