Actually for me it does not matter. If I need something it' sin iTunes. I can also consolidate in to 1 place, the iTunes folder then enter it through the back door method of browsing and play it in vlc if I wanted to.. or sort by date modified and then get rid of things from x days ago and leave the copy in the media folder. so as you can see it is a Swiss army knife of managing media.
