I agree and I thought this a bit odd in the movie.  In the movie, the mole
is recruited at Oxford in the late '30s, if I remember correctly.  Philby
and co. were, also if I remember correctly, recruited at Oxford about the
same time.  Apparently there was quite a strong wave of socialism that swept
through the student body.

The University of Toronto is a thoroughly establishment school and I find it
ironic that there are almost weekly marches protesting globalization, or
capitalism, or the U.S., and of course sometimes all three at the same time.
