Replico qui per rispondere a tutti:
Innanzitutto grazie per le risposte.
La scheda madre dove doveva finire il RAID aveva gia un controller
promise stupido integrato, ne ho aggiunto un'altro poco diverso e ho
attaccato i 4 dischi su questi. Da linux mi sono creato il raid software
(RAID5) con i 4 dischi.
Risultato: con il tempo (in ore) sprecato nel tentativo di far andare
l'sx4000 ho fatto tutto (in minuti) e adesso il tutto gira
tranquillamente.
La prossima volta, o sara' RAID software o sara' un 3ware! (SCSI e'
purtroppo fuori budget :-))

RAID
Redundant Array of Inexpensive (or Independent) Disks
A disk subsystem (that appears as a single large, fast, super-reliable
disk drive) composed of more than one (usually equal-sized) disk drives
(called an array) to provide improved reliability, response time, and/or
storage capacity. When the first RAID-based products came out, the cost
of controllers and capacious SCSI disk drives meant that servers could
easily cost $35,000. Vendors were embarrassed by the “Inexpensive” in
the RAID acronym and temporarily decided that the “I” stood for
“Independent” instead.
