Thanks. Correction: raytraced water is frame-coherent, it's just not animated (i.e., doesn't fluctuate over time). I have to add an additional shader term to use a temporal component.

This link shows an example of both vector flightpath and raytracing. 720 frames, taking about 7 hours to render on a 1.8 Ghz single CPU machine.

The water waves were turned off because they make it a lot slower plus I believe the bump pattern is not frame coherent (would flicker when animated).
