Here's a little tidbit that might be helpful to those using Canon digital with
'R' (and other) manual focus lenses.

Canon sells the focusing screens for the non-series 1D dSLRs (D30/60, 10/20D)
as service parts. Not officially user replaceable, but not terribly difficult
if you have the tools and patience. Any decent service person can do it as
well. Of course the 1D series has user interchangeable screens.

In any case, these or *any other* focusing screen can be sent to Bill Maxwell
for his 'HiLux' treatment. This both brightens AND increases the contrast of
the screen, making the camera much easier to focus. He offers discounts for
multiple screens. If you have an older camera like an early Rollei TLR he can
provide a replacement screen and the difference is truly startling.

Haven't talked with him in a couple years. His phone number at that time was:
404-244-0095 (in Atlanta, Georgia, USA). He did mention setting up a separate
company to run the photo related business to allow him more time to work on
government contracts, but I don't know if that happened.

I had him 'HiLux' my Hasselblad screens (back in the day) and the improvement
was impressive. Once I settle on a digibody, I'll buy a screen, have him 'fix'
it and install it in said body.

He also designed and offers very high quality loupes.

And no, I don't work for him; just a satisfied customer. hth/Scott Gardner
