Laura,
Hooray! Good for you, even not knowing what it was you did wrong. Or
right. Not to be selfish, but let's hope this was something idiosyncratic
about your own computer, not some insane sort of bug in Jaws 8, though what
sort of bug that would be, I can't even imagine. More like some sort of
tiny malware script that keeps deleting whatever you type into that field.
But now I'm lurching toward the paranoid fringe...

Again, congratulations.

OK, let's have a celebration! I tried the same process, the exact same
steps, over and over to save the Control-Alt-J hot key for JAWS. About the
ninth time I tried, it worked. Did I do anything differently? No. Do I
know what I did to make it work the last time? No, because I did the exact
same thing I did the first eight times.

So, on one hand, that's just great. I now have a hot key to start JAWS. On
the down side, I have no idea why it behaved so defiantly, like an unruly
child. Go figure.

I understand. Something sounds pretty screwy. This is something which I
think you know is so routine that it's hard to imagine why it's not possible
for you. I can't see how Jaws itself could be sabotaging this. At this
point, if this were happening to me, I'd call Jaws support and ask if anyone
else had reported this problem and whether they knew the cause. tomorrow
morning, I mean...

Oh, I'd definitely clicked OK. I hadn't clicked Apply before OK, but
following either path results in the same result: the hot key won't save.

Chris,
it's nice someone thought to ask this! It never occurred to me that someone
might input, delete or revise the settings of a hotkey without exiting the
task properly, so just like everyone else, I didn't even mention that, even
though we're always saying to click OK after changing something in anything
from the Configuration manager to the options settings of something like
Internet Explorer or Outlook Express. Or Word. Or whatever. Wouldn't it
be nice if that turned out to be the problem someone had with this, instead
of some mysterious malfunction?

Hi. Have you atempted to hit apply before pressing the ok button to save
your changes? I was atempting to do a hot key for another progam and i found
that I had to do that to get the hotkey to work.
