Yes, it works that way but it seems quicker to me to do it the other way, if it
was working correctly that is. Smile.

Hello Troy!

Have you tried to open first Microsoft Word? Then, once it is opened, press
CTRL + O, and look for the document you want to open?

I'm running Windows-XP home with Jaws 7, but I can't tell you whether or not
this was happening with past versions of Jaws or not because I haven't had
occasion to do this very often until recently.

I don't use anything else besides MSWord so I don't know if this occurs with
other types of documents or not.

As far as reformatting the computer, no I haven't done that because that
seems like kind of a drastic measure for something that is more of a
  nuissance than a problem.

  hi Troy,

Few question that I hope you can provide me the answer.

** What is your system configuration?

** What version of JFW you are using?

** Will this problem happen if you open other Office document such as
  MS-Excel? or MS-power point

** How long this problem has happen?

** Do you have try to reformat your computer? if yes, will this problem
  still happen?

  Hi All,
If I open Word 2000, then find the file that I want to open and hit enter on
it it opens without a problem and I can read it without a problem, however
if I don't open Word first and just hit enter on the file say from Windows
Explorer I have to close Jaws and restart it once Word opens and brings up
the document or else I can't arrow up and down in the document.

I'm assuming that this is a Jaws problem although I can't pinpoint when this
all started, can anybody tell me why if I open Word first and then pull up
the document I can read it without a problem but if I hit enter on the
document and let Word open automatically I have to restart Jaws before I can
  read the document?

  Thanks.
  Troy
