Okay, Dave, in the message I just sent, I misinterpreted the message of yours I was replying to, or I find it clearer here. Like Cy, I would like to know where I am in a message list. It's along the lines that Mark described, except that I can't bring myself to delete messages wholesale. When I'm catching up on a day's or a week's JAWS list traffic, for example, I'd like to know periodically how far I've made it down the message morass. Consider it the equivalent of a downloading file's progress bar. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Farfar Carlson Sent: Wednesday, March 16, 2011 4:38 PM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: number of messages Mark, Yes, I understand your question, but not the one from Cy. You want to know how many are in the folder, and how many are unread -- so do I. However Cy has introduced a side topic on this thread as to how to set JAWS to announce the relative position in the list of messages that the highlighted message occupies. Similar to a list in MS Explorer, where you can usually hear filename.txt 24 of 128. This tells me that there are 128 files in the folder and that I'm looking at the 24th file. This is easy in Outlook Express, but I haven't figured out how to do it in Outlook 2007. Perhaps it's in the verbosity settings somewhere? Some email list can have hundreds of messages. If I am pushed for time and there seem to be many one liners, a control A followed by delete saves a lot of time and frustration. Following the same reason as above if it states I only have 10 messages to go, I will read them as it should not take a lot of time. OR I could just be a control freak! Since I use first-letter navigation to find folders,I've never wanted to know where in the overall list a particular folder resides. Am I missing a particular "neat trick" that helps us by knowing that information? I really do wish I could find "where" in the folder I am such as 135 of 402. Insert+tab only gives me what insert+ up arrow does, no numbers. First, I just tried this on Outlook 2003 and it worked. While at the message list in a folder, switch to the JAWS cursor and go to the bottom line. Here the number of messages is read. 2. This doesn't work on my machine, but since insert-3 has stopped working on yours, maybe the change makes this one work instead. Insert-tab ought to tell you not only the number of messages in a folder, but also where you're positioned on that list. I wish this worked here. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jfw-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Mark Sent: Tuesday, March 15, 2011 11:28 AM To: jfw@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: number of messages Running Jaws 12 with outlook 2007. I use to hit insert numpad 3 to hear amount of messages in the folder I was in. Now it does not work. All I changed was the scheme. It has been changed back, but insert does not work.
